I am 17 years old and I have recently met a girl who is 16, we went out one night and 1 thing led to another and I was ready to have sex, but she said she can't, I thought she was just scared cos she was a virgin but the next day the explained to me the situation, the female side of her family (mother, grandmother and so on) have cervical cancer in their history, meaning she has the cells which can become cancerous and she has told me that cells from my penis during intercourse can trigger the cells to become cancerous therefore giving her cancer, I didn't fully understand everything she was saying to me because I have never heard about it before and I saw how much talking about it affects her emotionally so I am trying to completely avoid talking to her about it, that's why I came here so I can ask about it....

Will intercourse really trigger it?
If it does then if I wear a condom will that make any difference?

I really like her and in time might even fall for her but it probably sounds like i'm just thinking with my d!ck, I just want to understand what CAN go wrong and the limitations we have e.g. completely no penetration (anal), oral sex etc etc

If I sound like a fool I completely accept it....

Thanks for reading and I hope to receive an answer soon as I am going to see her tomorrow.

Cervical cancer is NOT hereditary. This means it isn't passed down in her family.

Most cervical cancers are caused by the HPV virus. HPV is a sexually transmitted disease and those are caused by unprotected sex.

She needs to learn about cervical cancer herself. It sounds like she has some misconceptions about it.

Well I read up a bit on it a few days ago and it did say its not hereditary, but if you just step back and think about it, she would have the same or very similar tissue formation in and around the genitals, plus her mother is a nurse so either her mother told her she mustn't have sex (cos she might get it) just to try and not let her daughter have sex until she is older, or maybe she heard it wrong from her mum.

So you basically saying that the only way she can actually get it is if someone transmits the HPV virus into her, is this virus picked up like every other STI and the only way to get it is if her partner has had unprotected sex previously? because I am a virgin myself and so don't have any infections (atleast I think I don't lol)
