HiScared:

Same here on the loose stools and malabsorption issues. I know this sounds strange, but I can't even burp anymore because my Small Bowel is having a hardtime digesting the food I eat....it's a very painful (frustrating) sensation...However, today I had the first normal BM (in consistency, color, etc) since this issue started. Something I'm taking seems to be helping me, not sure how it would work for any of you. Therefore, please check with your Dr. if he feels that it can help you boost the immune system. Besides, it might be too early to tell if this is going to work long term:
AM:
- 3 garlic cloves (chewing one at a time)
- Probiotics + yogurt
- Equinacea

PM:
- cat's claw
- Astragalus
- Equinacea

After the meals (when I feel like eating), I'm taking 3 papaya chews. The papaya enzyme should help the body digest the food(since your gut doesn't seem to be doing the job, for whatever reason)

Also, this week I just noticed a body tag growing on the left side of my scrotum....quite odd (actually I had a few growing under my arms & neck, after the onset of this symptoms). Just hope it's an anxiety/stress sign, but will schedule sometime with my dermatologist.

Has anyone something like that ?

Good luck and let me know how you are doing....

Best,

Ramon

Prospective Study of Cervico-Vaginal Shedding of Htlv-I in A Cohort of Femal Sex Workers in Lima, Peru

BACKGROUND: HTLV-1 is a sexually transmitted pathogen. Certain populations. including female commercial sex workers (FSW), are at increased risk for HTLV-1 infection. Knowledge regarding cervico-vaginal shedding of HTLV-1 is limited.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the incidence and risk factors for cervicovaginal shedding of HTLV-1.

METHOD: Each FSW in Lima and Callao, Per must receive a health examination at the public health clinic every two weeks. This examination includes a gynecological examination with cultures at each visit, syphilis serologies (RPR) performed four times each year and HIV tests performed twice each year. FSW were recruited by a study social worker who administered a standard questionnaire to each participant. HTLV-1 infection was established by ELISA and confirmatory Western Blot. Cervical and vaginal swabs were obtained during routine gynecological visits, and analyzed with nested Tax PCR to detect HTLV-1 DNA.

RESULTS: Of the 148 cervical and 27 vaginal specimens from 79 HTLV-1 seropositive FSW examined, HTLV-1 Tax DNA was detected in 25 cervical and 2 vaginal samples.

CONCLUSION: Using a sensitive PCR method, we were able to identify HTIJV-1 DNA in cervical and vaginal specimens from women with asymptomatic HTLV-1 infection, The role of cervicovaginal shedding in HTLV-1 transmission; and risk factors for HTLV-1 shedding remain to be determined.

Cell-mediated HTLV-I infection of a cervix-derived epithelial cell line.

Abstract
There is considerable evidence that sexual transmission of human T-cell leukemia virus-I (HTLV-I) is mediated by virus-infected lymphocytes in genital tract secretions. However, it is not clear whether infection occurs through lesions in the genital tract epithelium or takes place via an intact epithelium. We have carried out experiments to test the hypothesis that sexual transmission of HTLV-I is initiated by lymphocyte-mediated infection of intact genital tract epithelia. To examine this question we added either free virus or HTLV-I producing MT-2 cells to cultures of a cervix-derived epithelial cell line, MS751. Although free virus did not infect MS751 cells, MS751 cells which had been coincubated with MT-2 cells became infected. These cultures produced about 50 pg/ml of HTLV-I p24 antigen per 10(6) cells over a 24 h period on the sixth day following exposure to donor T-cells. Proviral DNA could be detected in target MS751 epithelial cells by PCR. Infection of epithelia could be blocked, in a dose-dependent manner, by the sulfated polysaccharides dextran sulfate, heparin, and fucoidan, and by the enzymes fucosidase and mannosidase, but not by a number of other agents that were tested. Since MT-2 cells were observed to attach to the epithelial monolayer, we examined the ability of agents to inhibit adhesion. Adherence was inhibited by the same agents that inhibited infection. Based on these findings, we hypothesize that sexual transmission of HTLV-I may involve lymphocyte-mediated infection of genital tract epithelia and that lymphocyte adhesion to the epithelium is a critical event in transmission of HTLV-I. We speculate that a sugar moiety on the epithelium, possibly mannose or fucose, may be involved in adhesion of T-cells to epithelial cells. As sulfated polysaccharides block both adhesion and productive infection of the epithelium, these compounds might be used as active ingredients in a vaginal formulation to help prevent HTLV-I transmission.

AdviseMe,

Yes, this is the pattern - alternating cycles of weight gain & loss, with thinning in the legs, shoulders, and hips. Classic HTLV symptoms.

Best wishes.

Guys, I know this sounds crazy, but the coincidences are becoming mind boggling. My wife has being fighting shingles which might be affecting her vision. While this is still treatable, I'm concerned I might have infected her with non-B HIV strain (or even group P or N) I could have contracted from my previous girlfriend from Northern Africa who lived in France, or a from a CSW I had an encounter a few years ago in Brazil, who admitted having sex with a guy from Africa. Needless to say, everbody has tested negative to HIV, but going through the sites of the different manufacturers & labs, I felt that the majority of them tune their equipment to detect mostly Group M, B-strains, while being less sensitive to other strains and groups. Does anyone know where it's possible to test for these different strains ? I'd help if its in NYC, but considering the urgency, I'd travel anywhere to get tested....

PLEASE HELP !!!!

Resp,

Yes, completely & absolutely crazy! You do NOT have HIV !!!

Some facts:

1. We have all been tested for HIV in multiple ways, NONE of us have HIV!

2. HTLV has been around for 100,000 years, HIV has been around for 100 years, especially in native populations in North & South America, Australia, Africa, and Japan, etc.

3. While HIV testing is conclusive and standardized, HTLV testing is not, meaning that all of the work that has gone into developing HIV tests has NOT been done for HTLV. That's why BETTER tests for HTLV are being sought in places like Brazil.

4. You can test as much as you want, you DO NOT have HIV.

If you are still going to call Gene ID in San Carlo Brazil & ask about their new HTLV test, please let me know what they say. I will pre-pay you to buy an HTLV test for me, I need to prove that I have this disease.

Thank you.

Resp,

Yes, that sounds crazy! Here are some facts:

1. You and the rest of us have repeatedly tested negative for HIV - NONE of us have HIV !!!

2. HTLV has been around for 100,000 years, HIV has been around for 100 years - it's clear what one is more likely to be caught.

3. HTLV is part of native populations in North & South America, Africa, Australia and Japan.

4. Testing for HIV is standardized and conclusive, meaning that the work has been done to fully develop the test, whereas HTLV is still not conclusive, which is why countries like Brazil are seeking better tests! NO ONE NOWHERE is asking for a BETTER HIV test.

Hopefully you all can see the difference between HTLV & HIV.

If you are still going to call Gene ID in San Carlo, Brazil to ask them about their new HTLV test, please let me know. I will pre-pay you to get my one of these tests, since I need to get a diagnosis so that I can get a doctor to start treating me.

Thank you.

I think i read one of your post where you describe that it's been a few years for you 4 to be exact, if this is so, then a lymphocyte panel could give you some answers, also i believe i read some where that the "RNA Aptima" could detect a wide range, if not all known types and subtypes of hiv 1.
Get tested for htlv after the two year mark to completely rule it out.
I don't know if this helps but i hope everything goes good.

HIV-1 RNA, Qualitative TMA by Aptima

Method
Qualitative transcription-mediated amplification (TMA)
Analytical sensitivity: 30 copies/mL
Analytical specificity: HIV-1 groups M, N, and O and subtypes A, B, C, D, E, F, G are detected
Aliases: Aptima HIV-1 TMA

Also from abbott real-time pcr
HIV-1 Qualitative Assay.
The HIV-1 Qualitative Assay detects the HIV-1 RNA genome in virus particles in plasma. A positive result indicates that viral replication is occurring. This procedure utilizes a real-time reverse-transcriptase PCR procedure from Abbott Molecular Systems to amplify a portion of the pol/integrase region of the HIV-1 genome. This region is highly conserved. This procedure will accurately detect group M subtypes as well as group O and N isolates. This test may be used to resolve indeterminate HIV western blot results and to detect early HIV infection especially in patients who may have non-B subtype HIV infections (2, 3). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the use of plasma RNA testing in conjunction with an HIV antibody test in cases where acute retroviral syndrome is suspected (4, 5). The HIV-1 Qualitative Assay can be used for this purpose.

Keep in mind that the Aptima is a TMA assay catigorized as a PCR methodology, and the Abbott is a Real -Time PCR they are very comparable.
However please look in to both, google "wardelab hiv rna" click on the first option it explains a little bit of both. I don't know if there is a difference, all i know is that U.S. porn stars prefer the Aptima.

The hiv test we've taken test for antibodies not the actuall hiv cells or infection. So it wouldn't matter what strain of Hiv someone has, everyone makes antibodies to fight the disease. Atleast that's what I understand. Good luck.

Hi D.

I understand your point, and i also thought like that, but in reading some papers" i realized that results may be different in different parts of the world. The Ab is generated by the Ag, who reads the type of virus and binds to the Ab.one they match, the Ab knows which invader to attack. Since this reading goes on in the rna/dna level, the Ab produced to attack a certain hiv vius sub-type might not have a similar envelope as another Ab targetting a std B strain, therefore these sub-type Ab, might not be in scope or the detection list of the immunosay, which compares the identified proteins to a reference list of detection thresholds. To reduce the chances of having too many false-positive, labs can tune the detection to be more sensistive and specific to the strain with higher prevalence in the cohort in question. Is this right ?

HTLV sucks
Scared,

I take supplements (i.e. four Curcumin tablets) and yogurt, which I believe help my stools. The illness is affecting my muscles and stools and back & spine & legs & skin & eyes & energy level. We are all experiencing the same thing, and it appears to be HTLV. It is not HIV no matter what anyone tells you about strains, etc. HIV is a well documented and well addressed disease, whereas HTLV is not well documented nor well addressed. Like Doctor Gotuzzo said, "it's so neglected that it's not even on the list of neglected diseases".

Best wishes.

Ustas,

You did the right thing man, your wife has the right to know what's going on with her body. I told my wife as well but she's in complete denial. All these negative tests she dosent even want to here it she thinks its all in my head. I can't let it go because I know I infected her with something our sex life isn't the same anymore. I feel so dirty and discusted for what I've done to her it's like I'm living a life that I don't even want to live anymore. If I could take that night in Baltimore back it would be the best thing ever. I just want my life back the way it was which I know is never gonna happen. This really really sucks man I don't wish this on my worst enemy. Every night I fall asleep I hope I never wake up, but when I do I know I have to go to work and provide for my family. My wife and kids deserve better i just can't wait for that day when it's all over, the night I fall asleep and never have to deal with this misery anymore.
