Well maybe you should speak to doctors who deal with HTLV, instead of the doctors who say that it's rare and does not cause any health problems. The UK doesn't stop people with HTLV from entering the country, nor having sex, etc. Therefore, what guarantees that anyone who becomes sick after sex does not have HTLV? Furthermore, HTLV can be transmitted by giving oral sex to an infected person - consider how many people have posted that they were sick after giving oral sex. Granted that it's not HIV, but still HTLV answers the question of why people are sick even after testing negative outside the HIV window period.

Let's stop the denial about HTLV
Certainly you can do an Internet search for HTLV, and see all of the information about it - clearly HTLV IS AN STI, can cause paralysis (HAM), cancer (ATL), eye problems (Uveitis), lung problems (Aveolitis), skin problems (Dermatitis), night sweats, severe fatigue, thrush (Candida), which all can be assumed to be symptoms of HIV by anyone suffering with this. There's a teenage guy on the POZ forum who tested negative for HIV, but is getting surgical biopsy done to figure out why he is sick - don't you think that's extreme to have a surgical biopsy considering that he may be infected with HTLV? Let's stop the denial about HTLV please, it's making people get expensive medical procedures done and worse, people who are truly sick are being told that they are crazy. How sad it that?

UK - we can argue about this forever - lots of things can mimic HIV, including HTLV. You insist that you know what and when regarding HTLV symptoms, and how often HTLV infection occurs (it occurs half as often as HIV and is not rare at all). You are extremely mistaken about HTLV.

Depressedman - congrats on your negative tests and I hope that your health completely returns. Don't let your mistake make you sad, but rather remember the lesson that you learned from it - don't be someone who keeps making the same mistake, believe me, I have done that and I am not proud of it.

I just don't know what to think anymore. I read a feedback last night that a guy left on this one site back in 2010, and he kept saying that he knew for sure that he has hiv although his tests came back negative, and he asked if there could be something that could be stopping hiv from being detected, or something like a rear hiv case that they may have not heard of yet. But anyways, I've never seen any other feedback from hin, and he isn't the only one who has said this. Now I know that technology is a lot more better than back in the 80's and 90's, but this is between 2010 and 2012 that people is claiming that their a 100% sure that they have hiv, although negative results. I looked up like every std out there, and only one shows up with every symptom that I have gotten and still is getting, and that is hiv only. So what is a person to do? I think that technology can fail. My hands, and joints in my fingures hurt really bad. I've never been in this kind of pain in all my life

Hey everyone! I just wanted to let everyone know, not to worry about HTLV. It does give you the same symptoms as HIV, but I also found out that all it is, is another term for HIV. That's why it attacks your t-cells, and gives you the same symptoms

Dalton - telling everyone not to worry about HTLV is a bad idea. HTLV is NOT the same as HIV, since HIV depletes your T-cells, and HTLV causes overproduction of T-cells. The symptoms are very similar, and testing for HTLV is a good idea long term if you still have symptoms after testing negative outside the HIV window.

Hi All, I agree with you on HTLV. Every one is worried about HIV initally but no one is worried about HTLV assuming its only endemic. This disease is the worlds most negleted disease. More than 25mm people are affected with this disease and there is no medicine or cure fund yet since past 40 years. I would also say 3/4th of the worlds population is not aware of this disease. I myself wasent aware uptill few weeks before i had this risky exposure with a person which protected oral and vaginal. 2 days after this encounter i started getting weak bladdr, nausia, abdominal pain, loose stolls, Diarreah, spots and pimples on face, neck, limbs, and back.ulcer on my lips and gums, nite chills, systematic pain all over boday, burning sensaction, sensory disturbance on limbs, lower legs and hands.Diarreah went around for 6 weeks followed by constipation. i still have diarreah for 3 days a week at week 8.Went to the Doc for HIV test at week 2,6 and 8 all came negative. Many health forum and Doctor said HIV is not my worry. At this moment i can only think of HTLV and am waiting for my test results before end of next week.I was surprised when my doc who is a expert for infectious disease said it is not transmitted through sexual intercourse and is not an STD. He wasent aware how is it transmitted even, This is the level of ignorance we have in this world for this disease. I am still loosing weight at week 8, have lost more that 6 kgs in 2 months, still feel fatigue all day, loss of concentrate on anything i do.dry itchy skin, blurred vision, dry mouth, lips at sleep such that there is no saliva on my mouth,Feel pain on my lower leg, limbs, sensory disturbance all over my body during day and nite(which dosent allows me to sleep),hands go numb lying on bed due to neurological problems.I am very sure i have HTLV. The thing that disappoints me and 25mm people with HTLV and their families is that is no medicine to start if you get infected. Foregt about Cure ther is no medicine even to keep the viral load supressed. Why are all government, health agencies and reaserch companies ignoring this diease. This disease is not new, history says that this disease is been with menkind for more the 400 years now and was only discovered in 1985, so for the past 25,30 years we havent been able to find any medicine for this retrovirus.People infected with this deadly virus are left on their own to die, people die due to psychological stress of disease even before the actual disease kills them. This seems to me as ignorance of humanity and faliure of science. I would even call it as ignorance of science,1) why arn't medical reaserch companies not finding medicine on this.2) Do they think there is not much business from this medicine. This Virus has infected more than 25 mm people with their families involved. No Durg found yet for cure or to supress the virusfrom past 30 years is a serious Problem which the world has ignored for sure.

@AdviseMe - thank God you are here! Finally someone else sees the same hypocrisy that I see - thank you for EVERYTHING you wrote - I love every word! The denial of DOCTORS that HTLV is an STD is RIDICULOUS. HTLV was discovered BEFORE HIV - how can they ignore something that was discovered before HIV?

Here's my responses to your questions:

(1) No research companies are doing anything about HTLV because we aren't lobbying them to do anything! If they got thousands of people asking for a cure, they'd be working on one right now! Let's lobby them!

(2) Same answer as above.

I will follow up with a link to a petition to ask the GOVERMENT and the DRUG COMPANIES to recognize and do something about HTLV - please, please, please, sign the petitions and ask your friends to sign as well!

Here's an online petition asking for a clinical trial of azacytidine to treat HTLV:

Here's an online petition asking the government to recognize HTLV as a public health problem:

Please sign, and please get everyone you know the sign, otherwise NOTHING is going to be done about this disease, and it will come looking for you or someone you care about someday.

Thanx Dalton,Tony and ustas.. I was feeling good wedsday about my results all negative.. But im still dealing with follucitis and a sore throat.. And my GF body is aching like her fingers and all her joints since last nite. And now Doubt has creeped back in my mind and body.. Why is it so hard to let go? And put that mistake behind me.. Its been 3 months of anxiety and self tourture.. I been reading about the htvl but I heard its rare in the U.S I dont know.. Im keeping all my new doubts and fears to myself now becuase my gf is sick and tired of hearing HIV over and over.. Im pretty confident with my negative results but I will probably go find a new std clinic and retest for everything one ladt time. At the end of this month.. My Doctor thinks im worrying to much and smirks when I ask all these ?s im pretty sure he thinks im some crazy weirdo lol.. And maybe I am. But what can I do when my body has new and rare reactions.. Well lets pray and hope for the best.. I will keep all u guys in my prayers and il always be checking in to see if we can find out whats going on.. But like my GF says let remember "were not Doctors" so lets not diagnose ourselves. We can only go to proffessionals and get tested and try and accept our results.. Good luck bros.. Ttyl

Depressedman, I truly understand everything that you and your g/f is going thru. I've been having problems with my hands and fingers tingling, and last night had gotton worse to the point had trouble sleeping cause of the pain. I know that hiv can cause bone disease, and nerve damage, and that's what it feels like I'm going thru. I called the hiv/aids hotline yesterday, and she is certain that I don't have hiv since I had gotten tested at 13 months, so I don't know what to do. The pain is getting worse, and nothing will help it.

This is what I just found.
Blurbs

About me:
I am someone trying to get the word out about a fatal disease called HTLV 1 & 2. When i was in Junior High, I remember a woman coming to my school telling us about how she contracted HIV, and how serious it was. She talked about the way she caught HIV and other ways it could be contracted, she also talked about the need to be tested, and ways to stay safe from getting it or passing it on to others if you had it. I have been tested many times over the years for HIV, and each time it my tests came back negative. I lived my life exstatic, knowing that i am disease free. However one day i went and donated blood to a bood bank, and a couple of weeks later they called me back stating that i am uneligible to donate blood any longer because my blood test said i was positive for HTLV 1 & 2. I was so confused because i was unsure what HTLV 1 & 2 was. I had never heard of it before. I went online and read about it and what i read angered me. I read that HTLV 1 & 2 is a disease that can be fatal, and is a distant cousin to HIV. In fact HTLV 1 & 2 was founded before HTLV 3 & 4 wich is now called HIV. The united states doesnt even recognize HTLV 1 & 2 as a disease that is an epidemic. What makes me so mad is that people go there whole lifes believeing that because they have been tested for STD's such as HIV and there test came back negative they are fine. They live out there lifes having children and families, not knowing that there is another disease they may have, and the fact that they may have passed it on to their children and loved ones. If one person is infected and they do not know they have it or where they got it from how many others will be infected. I want to get the word out about this disease, i want people to get tested at a blood bank. I want people to know rthat just because you dont have HIV, does not mean you are in the clear. I am despearate to get the word out on HTLV 1 & 2, i want to make a change, and save lifes. Please save your own and get tested.

Hello friends,

Anyone thought about the possibility of HPV there are over 30 different kinds and some cause cancer. Lymphoma is one type of these cancers. I'm with you guys on HTLV with all my negative HIV tests I've pretty much narrowed it down to HPV or HTLV. Look up the
symptoms for lymphoma guys I'm starting to think I have this I have every symptom of it.

adviseme, I feel you man I have every symptom you have still it's been 24 weeks since my exposure, still have a soar throat, itchy skin, swollen glands in neck, armpits, and groin, fatigue, joint pain, nausea, dry mouth, thick sticky saliva, dark circles under eyes, changes in fingernails, spine pain, neck pain, lower back pain, little pink rashes that come and go on different parts of my body, headaches, light headedness, dizziness, night sweats. I mean what can cause all this? My last HIV test was 22 weeks post exposure. My doctor said it would have showed up by now. Im scared I've infected my wife to because she has had a lot of these symptoms as well. Her doctor also told her to tell me to stop worrying because it would have showed up by now as well. Her doctor tested her twice, and she also sees a blood doctor as well he also tested her for everything the one thing she did test positive for was HSV 1 and HSV2. I haven't tested for this yet so I don't know if I gave it to her or not from this exposure, but her blood doctor also said not to worry about HIV. I don't know what to make of all this, if I do have HSV 1 and 2 do you guys think it could cause all this? The thing on my mind now is lymphoma I pray to god its not but with all these symptoms I don't know what else to think. Anyway I wish you guys the best of health and good luck on all your test results.

Thanks Depressedman, it is negative for true. So, HIV, HEPT, and regular STDs r not my problem, so i need to look in the another direction........CMV and HTLV.

Once it's a virus/desease, it is possibly the problem.
I'll surely dig into those.

Depressedman, we r not fools. The doctor's will think we r hypochondriac, but little do they know. I know my body and i know something is not right within me.
