Hi
I was just wondering what you ladies think about cellulite? I'm 21 and whenever I compare myself to other girls my age I feel like I'm abnormal or something because I have it on my upper (and especially inner) thighs and butt. I try to go to the gym a lot and count calories but it never seems to get lost!! Do any of you have the same sort of thing?
I just feel really self-conscious about it and it often makes me feel really bad about my body image. Confused
So yeah! Just wondering what you thought!
Jasmine

I think I got it first when I was slightly younger than you about 18 (if I am not mistaken) at first I was quite worried but then I think just leave it there nothing much I could do at that time eventhough there were a lot of products that said that was able to get rid of it.

I've got a fair bit of cellulite on the back of my thighs and bum, and it really makes me envy girls who can wear hotpants. Exercise does help shift a bit of it but it's also genetic, so you might be stuck with a little bit. There are creams that help but they're a bit pricey, and you can get other products as well, like special sponges and massagers. Try not to compare yourself to others, because it just gets you down. They probably have it too, and you just don't see it or they hide it. and definitely don't compare yourself to images in the media, magazines and suchlike. I know it's easy to do but I watched a video on how pictures are photoshopped, and the difference makes me question if models really are as flawless as they seem. It gives me a real confidence boost!

I second that Lion79, (try not to compare yourself to others) no offence but even models sometimes needs to retouch on their pics.

I third the not comparing yourself to others, though I do it too (and my husband gets really upset with me).
I think I first noticed my cellulite at around 19 or 20, I think everyone has it, like Lion79 said- they hide it, or you aren't close enough to tell. Also, with your own-it's very possible that you're the only one to notice it right now, especially if you live a healthy lifestyle. Drinking LOTS of water, leg lifts and squats have seemed to help mine lessen a little, but I think it's part of being a woman-we may be stuck with it because I've heard most men don't get any at all (yet another thing that isn't fair between the sexes).
Ok, I'm done now, sorry that was so long, I hope I've been able help a little.
P.S. My sis-in-law is a photographer and she said they do AT LEAST 25 retouches to pics in the magazines-don't trust those pics

I wasn't really sure what cellulite was, so I looked it up and read this:

"Practically all post-pubescent females display some degree of cellulite. "

"Cellulite is not related to being overweight; average and underweight people also get cellulite"

"Diet has been shown to affect the development and amount of cellulite. Excessive amounts of fat, carbohydrates, salt, alcohol or too little fiber can all contribute to an increased cellulite.

Smoking, lack of exercise, tight clothes, high heeled shoes, and sitting or standing in a single position of long periods have all been correlated with an increase in cellulite. A high stress lifestyle will cause an increase in the catecholamine hormones."

"Numerous therapies have been tried. There are no published reports in the scientific literature showing that any of these therapies work."

"The most beneficial therapy is to control lifestyle factors. Controlling stress and anxiety are of considerable benefit."

Ana Beatris R Rossi, Cellulite: a review, Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology; 14 (4), 251-262,(2000).

I know it's not healthy to compare myself to other people..You guys are right, it does get me down. I just feel like, especially when I'm in a bathing suit, that I have way more than other girls my age. It doesn't help that guys are always making fun of girls with "cottage cheese thighs". It seems like such an insensitive thing to say!

Thanks for your tips though. Recently I've gained some weight...I'm an "emotional eater" and I've been under a lot of stress lately. I'm going to try drinker more water. It'll probably be good for my overall health too!
