I have been through CBT for chronic anxiety and although it took me twice as long as the average person to feel the benefit of it, I did feel a lot better in the end. The therapist gives you homework in the form of questions to be answered etc and I found this helpful in covering a big area.
CBT gives you the language and the insight to describe what you are feeling and to identify what is 'wrong' with your reactions to certain situations.
In summarising how it has helped me, I would say that my fears and anxieties are still there, but I just don't care about them so much - my reactions are not as intense and eventually I am hoping they will admit defeat and leave me!
My employers paid for it and as stated above, it is one of the very few treatments that they will pay for.
