If you are referring to diarrhea, there are very few "surgical illnesses" that cause chronic diarrhea other than, perhaps, carcinoid syndrome or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (most causes of chronic diarrhea are due to medically-treated conditions). Rarely, diverticulitis may also be associasted with chronic loose stools.
