I found a small purple lump just inside my inner labia, I've had it looked at by my GP who says it appears to be a small haematoma, which I understand means bruise, and that it should disappear on its own. It was a week after having sex with my husband that I found it, and he wasn't rough with me. What other factors could cause a haematoma to just appear like that?

A hematoma is blood collection inside soft tissue. It usually appears after a mechanic trauma. A single hematoma is very likely to be caused by trauma. Certain blood coagulation disorders can also be manifested with hematomas but, in that case, hematomas should be multiple not single.

You could consult your gynecologist to check if that “purple lump” is really a hematoma or something else.
