There are many reasons that can cause you to miss your period. Usually most causes of a missed period are actually related to hormonal changes that manifest in different ways. For example, stress can cause a decrease in the gonadotropine releasing hormone (GnRH). Or being overweight might be related to lipid metabolic disorders. These disorders might include the metabolism of the cholesterol which is structurally similar to the female sex hormones. Being underweight or being on a strict diet might make you lose your menstrual period completely.
For women that are in the phase of peri-menopause, a missed period might one of the first signs that the reproductive cycle is coming to its end. Fertility finally end when a woman completely stops her period , which is the main symptoms that defines menopause.
Toward the final phase of pregnancy, the female hormones shift in order to prepare the uterus for the fetus. Those hormone levels tend to hold the same level in order to keep the pregnancy. But as a side effect, there is no menstrual period until the pregnancy is over. Therefore every, even slightest bleeding during pregnancy has to be thoroughly examined, usually as soon as possible, to rule out possible serious conditions.
In your particular case, you might want to wait for your next expected menstrual period to start. If you miss that one too, then you might want to visit your gynecologist for further pelvic and laboratory tests.
