Sexual Health - Women Answer A9374
Hi,

Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am glad to help you out. Bleeding during intercourse for the first time is due to a rupture of the hymen. Earlier, it was thought that a rupture of the hymen, which is a thin membrane in the vagina, during intercourse is the sign of losing virginity and this causes bleeding. However, nowadays with so many sporting activities in which women are involved the hymen breaks down even before the intercourse.

This hymen can be torn during vigorous exercises or horseback riding and sometimes it is so rigid that it does not tear even during intercourse. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For an exact diagnosis, you are advised to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
