it was pretty bizarre when it happened. Iv been experiencing bipolar symptoms, for a couple of years and now i have it.
My very kind boss at work took me to a alternate therapy doctor who uses a form of homeopathy called Bachs flower therapy.
The first question he asked was if i had cats at home. i was really taken aback. I have never heard of that link before.
My first experience with a bad mood swing which i can remember was when we had our first cat at home, some ten years back, and that generation still lives on.

He prescribed me loads the little sugary pills with huge amounts of water everyday. (i don't believe in homeopathy, and taking the medicine and water was just not practical enough for me, so i had to just throw them away.)
The worst part was me being an animal lover, being in a family where all of us love our animals and we have had animals all through lives, this is what the doctor had to say. throw your cats away. those were the words. part of the diagnosing was he suggested some ways of letting go of my cat family... which was sad. and they still live with us.

So here is my question.
Has anyone has this situation before where there is possible connect with toxoplasma gondii from cats to bipolar disorder?
What did you do... did you let go of the cats or are you taking medication with the cats still around?
Has anyone been treated for toxoplasma gondii?

Thank you very much.

Well, I'm glad you threw away the sugar pills instead of your cats.

I had never heard of this so I googled it. I found that some scientists link toxoplasma with schizophrenia as the parasite can alter our brains. Which makes me wonder if my cats could be the cause of my depression. I am not getting rid of them however, as I love them dearly, the same being true of my children who I am CERTAIN are often the cause of my depression! Seriously, if you are worried about this possibility, have your cats tested for the disease because they may not even have it.
