Usually you can't recover from carpal tunnel IF that is what you truly have..without surgery. Sometimes even the surgery doesn't seem to work. You can purchase hand splints to wear at night, and when your hands act up, which will take alot of the pain away, but other than that, I think surgery is the only other way to go. I have had carpal since 1988, and have learned to live with it, since I have many friends who have had the surgery, and for some, it worked, others it didn't.

I know how you feel. By all means, whatever your doctor says, take his advice. Either way, whether you have the surgery or not, can be a crap shoot. I have a friend who had the surgery, but still lost the muscle around her thumb! Her hand looks like it caved in right where the round part that connects to her tumb is! I have been lucky so far, but my hands hurt all the time, and I get trigger finger alot. At this point I am afraid to have the surgery because a few of my friends said their wrist are weak now, and have never been the same again. I hope this thread brings some other carpal sufferers on to share their stories...
