I've had this problem for a while now. See
I fall asleep and then i would try to wake
up, but i can't. Its like i hear myself
saying Wake Up! Wake Up, I try to move but
i can't, feels like something is holding
me down and i start panicking and it's
like i can't breath. I try to move so i
can snap myself out of it, but i can't.
The most recent one, and scariest one was
about 2 nights ago. I couldn't sleep, till
finally i rest my eyes and I open them i
could only see out of a slit out my eyes.
They were halfway open, but i was still
asleep. I gripped the bottom of my bed
with my toes, but i couldn't wake up! I
kept telling myself to wake up, but i
couldn't. I felt like somethign was
holding me down again. What is going on
with me, my mom says that happens to her
too, but what exactly is happening to
me???

Hi, what you have is sleep paralysis, it
is when your mind wakes up, but your body
has not. You can't talk, you can't move at
all. And it lasts maybe a minute or so at
a time.
I think it is caused by sleep deprivation.
Lack of sleep. So the best thing you can
do is get well rested at night, try to get
7 / 8 hours of sleep.

I have not heard of anyone dying from
sleep paralysis, but I know it is scary. I
use to have a feeling of danger in the
room when I had sleep paralysis.
I grew out of it myself, have not had an
episode in over 5 years. I make sure I get
enough sleep at night.
I once went to the doctor but at the time
I didn't know what I had and the test bore
no results and it was forgotten about. So
I never got any information about this
condition. I just know when I took the
test that I had an attack in the middle of
the test it was an EEG. But I was told to
go without sleep and after that day I
decided that lack of sleep was what had to
have set it off. So I make sure to always
get enough sleep.

I think most people experience this at
some point. If it is something that
happens regularly then there is
medication. Sleep paralysis won't kill
you.
It is perfectly normal. It's happened to
me a few times. The best thing to do is
recognize that it's normal and that it
will be over soon. Don't panic -- that
will make it worse. Just relax and
eventually you'll come out of it.
