Q: Canker sore odor
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 31st, 2009
My question is -
When I get these sores I get really bad breath. My wife can tell they're are coming before I get the sore because she can smell the odor that they cause. The odor stays the entire time I have the sore and it's a really strong odor. I know other people who get kanker sores but I don't think their breath smells. What is the odor from? How can I fix the problem.

The sores being located only on your tongue produce foul odor due to the cell degradation that occur in the sores. The inflammation that accompanies the condition increases the intensity of the odor. What you need to do is to solve the sores issue. You might want to visit your dentist to check for some chronic infection in your mouth. He might want to take a swab from your mouth and the sores and prescribe you some antibiotics and antiseptic oral solution.
