There could be many reasons for this.
Are you ovulating regularly? If not this could be a reason for not getting pregnant.
You need to have regular sex, once a day or 3 times a week in order to hit your ovulation day. As your cycles are a little irregular it will be hard to know when you are ovulating.
Have you tried tracking your cervical mucus and BBT? As this could help track your ovulation day. You can also buy Ovulation Prediction Kits (OPK) from any chemist or supermarket.
Sometimes a couple can 'try' too hard. What I mean is sex becomes a chore rather than something that you both enjoy. Trying for a baby should be something a loving couple do rather than feeling they have to. And so because it feels like a chore it can become extremely stressful which could also be another reason for not getting pregnant.
Being overweight can also make conceiving harder too. You should eat and healthy well balances diet that is high in Zinc as zinc helps produce good quality eggs and sperm.
If you smoke and drink then it's adviseble to stop. You should also cut down or cut out caffine from your diet. You should also take pregnancy vitamins primarily Folic Acid. Folic acid should be taken before you get pregnant and for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy as it can help prevent spina bifida and other neurological defects.
