can you really get herpes on your ribs?

i have recently been to my doctors because i had a itch on my side with hurt really bad for 3 days he told me i had herpes on but its on my ribs :S i didnt kno you could get it there he has given me cream that makes no sence read the leaflet it says apply every 4 hours but the sticker and what the doctor told me to do was apply it 5 times aday. this was thursday last week i have been doing it for 4 days now and it as gotten worse and started to blister is this normal can anyone help? and does anyone kno if you can really get herpes on your ribs? thanks for reading
