I recently had a normal period (started june 24th) which was 3 days late. However since then i have taken 3 home pregnancy tests and they are all positive. Can u still have a heavy period whilst pregnant?

It is possible. Did your period last the same number of days that it always lasts or was it short? Some women have stated that they experienced a short period the first month of their pregnancies.

I visited about a half a dozen websites and came up with these causes of false positive pregnancy test results:

- HCG shots for fertility treatment or weight loss (Pregnancy tests work by detecting HCG, the pregnancy hormone.)

- soaps or detergents (That is why pregnancy tests now have women urinate directly on the stick instead of urinating in a cup and submerging the stick in the cup.)

- Medications: anticonvulsives, Parkinson's disease medications, tranquilizers, certain diuretics, methadone, promethazine

- Trophoblastice tumors grown in a woman's reproductive system or germ cell tumors on the ovaries

- hysterical/ false pregnancy (which occurs when a woman wants a baby so badly that her body mimics the signs of pregnancy)

- Leaving the test for too long (It is very important that you follow the directions TO THE LETTER. If you leave a pregnancy test sitting for an hour and go back to check it, it WILL show positive.)

- uterine, breast, or ovarian cancer

- expired or defective pregnancy test

- evaporation lines (if the the positive line is barely visible)

- chemical pregnancy/ early miscarriage

Thank u for researching for me.
Sadly i started bleeding again today and visited an emergency doctor who confirmed i have had an early miscarriage.
He also said it can be possible to have a period in early pregnancy so that explains my period and positive test.

I wish I knew enough about this to give you some comforting advice, jwheeldon, but I don't. I have never expereinced this. I have only heard that many women experience a period the first month of their pregnancy, usually before they even know thay are pregnant. But it is very rare to bleed for the duration of the pregnancy. I suggest that you listen to your doctor and try not to stress over this too much.
Good luck.
