***Can TMJ Cause this?***

My dentist just diagnosed with a severe case of TMJ.

My symptoms are a burning feeling in my throat, mouth, and even lips.

I am to go under a splint treatment asap.

I don't have headaches or jaw pain though...just the burning sensations.

Can TMJ cause this?

Thanks.

Max

I am not sure as I have not had any of those symptoms and I just got diagnosed with TMJ and I expeierence severe ear pain headaches tight throat feeling and trouble sleeping at night cause my jaw is out of alignment and causing my tongue to sit further back in my mouth restricting my airways it is horrible as I hardly sleep but am wearing a splint to help realign and will take a few more months for my symptoms to ease up and I wear one at night so I can breathe better and sleep.. However from what I read it can be caused by TMJ cause it can be a nerve being affected causing then sensations.

Max,

I would get a second opinion from an oral surgeon. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I'm seeing another TMJ specialist on Monday. Hes an instructor at LVI and has training in neuromuscular dentistry. The more I search on the web the more connections I find with TMJ and the symptoms. Im kind of in a weird spot now cause Im under the treatment of one dentist who already ordered my splint but in the process of seeing a neurmuscual dentist for a second opinion. I saw a neuromuscular dentist recently and he was hesitant to tell me what Phase 2 of the treatment entailed. What Im afraid of is full mouth reconstruction with crowns or something. I dont mind doing ortho again but not $40 worth of crowns..
