Can't sleep worring about sleep!!!!
Posted: 03-04-08 16:47pm

Hello Smile I'm here in search for some help i hope! I've never EVER had any type of sleeping issues until i was put on Lexipro for my anxiety attacks. I was on them for about a week when i started to get some insomnia from the pills. I was so freaked out by this that i stopped taking them. My daily anxiety has stopped, but i freaked myself out so bad from the insomnia that now i can't fall asleep. I sit in bed, and worry about NOT being able to sleep. I'll stay up sometimes until 4-5am and fall asleep because i'm so freaking tired. I have 2 kids, and a full time job, and it's really starting to ruin my life. This has been going on now for 2 months. I know now a very long time, but it's got to stop. I can't keep living my life like this forever, and be dependent on Tylenol PM, or Advil Pm to sleep. I just want to be able to fall asleep like i always did. I know maybe it's psycological, or 90% in my head. I've basicly programmed it into my head. How do i get this to end?!?!?!? Anyone with this problem or something similar?

Nausea, insomnia, and headache are common side effects of using Lexapro.
One of the Lexapro withdrawal side effects is insomnia (not able to fall asleep or sleeping for a shorter time than desired, thus not being able to properly rest and feeling unrefreshed)
Also, insomnia can be caused because of worrying too much for being able to fall asleep.
Do you still get anxiety attacks?

Right now i'm only getting anxiety about not sleeping, or sleeping well. lol I'm trying to find a way to get myself to sleep with out sleeping pills. Or maybe some way natural to try and get myself back on a schedule. Doctor gave me sleeping pills, but i really want to do this on my own, but i can't seem to get to bed before 1am. Any suggestions? Because it's killing me, and myfamily Sad

Insomnia that is associated with excessive worrying about not being able to sleep is known as psychophysiological insomnia.
People with this sleep disorder worry too much about their insomnia and about being tired the next day. As a result, they become tense and anxious as bedtime approaches.
When they try to fall asleep, they usually have racing thoughts that all relate to insomnia, resulting in more and more stress and tension and all of this makes it less likely that they will be able to fall asleep (worry sets up a cycle for ongoing insomnia).

Are you also, unable to take a nap in afternoon when you try?
Have you been a lighter sleeper even before this problem occurred?
Have you noticed that you are falling asleep easier when you are away from your bedroom?

I've never had any type of sleeping problems in my life. I've always been able to lay down and fall asleep no matter where i was. Almost 90% of the time i'm able to fall asleep in the chair during the day, or take naps. I layed down the last couple nights with my daughter in her bed, and she has a TV in her bedroom, and was able to fall asleep on my own. But if i lay in my bed for some reason i can't fall asleep there with out some Tylenol PM. Even when i'm dead tired. I've been doing some exercising. That might be helping a bit. But i just really really want my life back.

I can only imagine how this condition kills you.
But, please, avoid sleeping pills taken on your own...and it's great that you started exercising, but, don't practice some too close to bed time.
This insomnia can be ongoing and can grow in its intensity and the only reason is excessive worrying.
It will be a good idea to ask for referral to sleep specialist, to get tested for other sleeping disorders, too.
Thinking of you!
