I am writing because I am becoming increasingly alarmed that I cannot get pregnant. Admittedly I'm the ripe old age of 41, but I've been trying since I was 40. I desperately need to know what to do next. I recently moved to the USA from Britain - still investigating medical insurance, but tried calling an infertility clinic to see how much a consultation alone would cost. They quoted me $300 just for the initial appointment. Is it possible to get an insurance plan that covers all the tests? Can anyone suggest one? My second question is do I need to have tests or can I go straight into IVF? If my fallopian tubes are blocked do they need to be unblocked first before IVF? Please please can someone point me in the right direction. I haven't a clue how much all of this is going to cost and time is ticking by FAST. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks hb hb

Hopefully this is not a double post - I was writing and it disappeared!

Check into what type of insurance you can get. Hopefully you can get it through work or a spouse, otherwise you can get self funded plans. Be sure to check what type of infertility coverage the plan offers because it can vary widely.

As for cost, it really will depend on your location, clinic and insurance. If the clinic is reputable, you will go through a series of diagnostic tests to determine which is the best course of action for you. The tests should include one to check your fallopian tubes.

Good luck!

Try to relax
I know it's hard, but the more you are anxious about it, the more it will not happen because you're stressed about it. Yeah... as if I have anything to provide since I was and am going through the same things, thoughts and worry as you. We went through the whole IVF journey which cost lots of money and in the end we are still childless. Definitely heartbreaking.

My sister had tried to get pregnant for over a year. She swears that she got pregnant when she stopped eating sugar (all sugar!) and taking 100% live acidophillus (from the health food store fridges). She was quite angry that I would not do this, but I tried to explain to her that her husband had not undergone a vasectomy reversal. Not sure what your situation is... low sperm, female issues, etc.

I read something that might help you (we are going to try it ourselves), so send me a personal message if you want to more info.

Hi, i moved to the USA a year and a half ago, have 3 children from a previous marriage, am 41 and trying to get pregnant with my new husband who is 37.
We have medical insurance through my husbands work, and as we have only been trying for 3 months (got my period today so thats that for another month) i havent started looking into infertility treatments, but am beginning to feel tempted.
I live in New Jersey.
