Q: Can't eat after flu
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 12th, 2009
i had the flu all last week. not the stomach flu, but the head flu going around. now, no matter what i put in front of me, everything makes me nauesous and i can't eat very much. i'm shoving food in me to eat. i know i'm not pregnant, so that's ruled out.and nothing sounds good to eat but my stomach cramps so bad. i also have the lingering cough from the flu and that makes me gag sometimes almost to the point of throwing up. any advice?

Hello and welcome to eHealth Forum!
If you had flu and are recovering from it, then in all probability nausea is due to acidity following fever. This can also cause a cough that can make a person gag to the point of throwing up. Alternatively it could be lung infection or bronchitis. An X-ray of chest should be done.

It could also be that you had stomach flu too though that did not result in diarrhea, only nausea.Persistent nausea can also be due to liver infection which can be diagnosed by a liver function test.

You need a comprehensive investigation taking all these points in consideration. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. Please discuss this with your doctor and get yourself investigated accordingly. Hope this helps. Take care!
