Can strabismus return?

I've had a lazy eye ever since I was about 2 years old. At the age of 5 & 15, I had a strabismus eye surgery done. Now I am 21 years old and in the past few months I feel like it has returned. Is that possible? I went to see my doctor a few months ago and he told me I was worrying about it too much but even my own family and friends agree that it has returned. Is it still safe to get a 3rd surgery done as an adult? For anyone who has this they might know that it makes a person self-conscious when you have to talk to someone face to face and you can tell that they notice it too. Thank you!
