Of course; people are full of contradictions.

Secondly, war is fought by soldiers, grown men and women. They have chosen to join the military and in that joining they consented to being sent to war. It is their choice to be there.

A fetus is "innocent" in the eyes of most pro-lifers, and thus it doesn't deserve to die. A soldier has chosen his or her fate, whereas a fetus cannot. Also, some pro-lifers or people in general consider soldiers to be murderers and heathens. I completely disagree, but that's not the point here.

Soldiers can be viewed as demons, the unborn as an innocent angel.

Yes, and it doesn't make sense to me.

Just as a fetus is innocent, so are the civilians and chilren who die in war torn countries.

Religion and political dogma can really mess up people's rationale. I don't like it.

"Collateral damage" = innocent civilians.

Many of our political leaders right now are pro war and anti abortion. I see it as a contradiction, but unfortunately, many people don't.

Exactly. I'm pro-war when I feel it's necessary. I'm not pro-"let's go kick the crap out of this country for no reason". I have a feeling many people who are anti-abortion may also feel this way.

Euphemisms suck, it's true.

By that reasoning a fetus should be collateral damage.

It is a contradiction since one advocates life and the other involves killing of innocent children and civilians.

I have a good reason for being anti-war myself, but, like Reptar, I can be pro-war. As long as the war is not like the one in Iraq, but is one to protect our country.

War itself and being pro-war is absolutely NOT the promotion of killing innocent civilians. An ideal war would involve fighting between only soldiers; but we all know this doesn't happen.

... I don't think anyone is STRICTLY pro war or anti war.

Really? Is anyone? I hate war. I would consider myself anti-war. However, I can conceive that in some cases, war might be better than the alternative. (For example, oppressed people rising against their oppressive/abusive rulers)

Not to turn this into a just war debate...

I think I remember reading somewhere that in some Christian circles there's a difference between killing and murdering... Ironically enough, "murdering" (ie, The kind of killing that is mentioned in the 10 commandments, abortion, genocide) is bad, while killing (ie, self defence, killing during war, capital punishment etc) isn't (as) bad. It's probably a lot easier to support war and be pro-life if you hold this view. I disagree with this type of dichotomizing of taking a life, but, hey, the world is a rainbow.

Thats a strange mix...but yes. Although I am anti war and pro a womans right to choose. Its her body and her moral code, not mine.I personally could never do it if I were a woman but I don't have the right to tell a woman that she has to follow my moral code. Its her immortal soul, her body, her problem. I do feel for the unborn child but I don't feel it is my call, its the womans.A personal choice is personal and private where as war is public and the draft is sometimes mandatory. War is stupid.

Somehow I don't think he's losing sleep over it. Rolling Eyes

Good point, Homer. Private and public morality are two different issues!

Let me get this straight... some people think it's ok to kill unborn children, but it's not ok to execute a killer? Sort of conflicted, aren't they?
