my boyfriend and i have just recently become sexually active and i told my mom and she is taking me to my doctor for birth control. I have never been on any form of birth control and i wanted to try nuvaring because i heard it does not cause weight gain. But i have a history of blood clots in my family so would it be safe for me to try?

Welcome to ehealthforum,
It is difficult to comment on the suitable birth control measure for you without going ahead with further evaluation. If there are any medical contraindications involved for the hormonal contraceptive use, your doctor/gynecologist would prescribe you the non-hormonal one that best suits you. Avoid getting started on any hormonal birth control measure on your own.
