Can gout cause blood clots?

Must Read
Gout is a common type of arthritis and accounts for about 5% of all cases of arthritic condition. But what is gout and what are the stages of this condition?...
Gout manifest for physical reasons...but what puts you at a greater risk of developing the disease? What risk factors should you avoid?...
Gout present symptoms mainly in the joints. Learn which signs to look for, and when you should seek medical help and diagnosis of gout....
My gout is more or less over, but my lower calf in the same leg is very painful and larger than normal and I think there is a blood clot there. I had blood clots in this leg 2 years ago. I am living in China and went to the hospital but they found my PT-INR ratio was just 1.55, so that should indicate normal clotting, but can gout in an ankle cause a blood clot in the leg even when the INR is normal?? I am going to go back and insist they do an ultrasound and not fob me off next time. Also aceclofenac, I readon the net, can increase warfarin's blood-thinning properties, and I am worried that if they find a blood clot the local doctors will not be fully up to speed on any dangers of using aceclofenac and warfarin together. (my gout is largely over, but the doctor recommended me to finish the course of aceclofenac).

In my case yes...
I suffer from Gout & "gouty Phlebitis" .... I have had two DVT's , last year and this year.... Both at the same time each year , just as I was ramping up my cycling...

If you experience phlebitis , in the great saphenous vein (GSV, as I do , then you will probably clot behind the knee... Even if your INR is normal... Most (ALL) doctors will NOT give you ANYTHING for pain if oyu are on warfarin.... NOTHING...
Actually the will prescribe some narcotics, but nothing that will decrease the inflamantion.

I also STOPPED my warfarin as I had a severe gout attack and needed to go back on NSAIDs to relieve the pain.... WE ( gout & dvt) people are in a bad situation, not being able to use nsaids with warfarin....

The doctors have no answers...

It is my belief that as we have gout, and may be athletic that our Uric Acid and Lactic acid are messing with the blood ph too much and WILL clot, just due to the PH of the blood....

I am trying PEPSID complete (to help buffer blood & urin PH) .... supplements citrates , & OPTYGEN to help buffer against Lactic Acid... I am trying to spread the base minerals , spreading sumpelents with Calcium, Magnesium, Potasium...
with minimal exposure to Sodium (Blood preasure concerns)...

There is a forum for DVT's ... google DVT forum... there is a lot of info there...

Okay guys, now you got me worried. Had an acute gout attack in May which prolonged for about 8-9 weeks. The acute pain from the attack subsided in about 4 weeks. However, untill just within the last week I have been inmobile due to the inflamation mostly in my callf, down to my ankle that just would not go away, even after a program of celebrex. Thought it was just an after effect of my gout. Never had this type and this long of inflamation before with an attack.

I will add however that when I elevate or sleep that the inflamation will almost 100% go away till I stand, or am active. As of now, my calf is just less than double the size of the other, and slowly returning to a normal color. This is down from about 4x the size and looking sunburned.

The thought of having another issue on top of the gout is not settling. Not real familar with DVT, and not sure if my body is just still fighting some goutyness, or if I should now have an additional concern.

Any thoughts folks? Can a gout attack cause DVT, or am I still just recovering?

Get to the hospital...
You NEED professional help... a Doctor... Lord knows what is causing your swelling... If No one suggests it you NEED to insist on a dopplar ultrasound on your leg and a D-Dimer blood test.

Typical response will be to start you on heparin and then warfarin...

Sorry for the bad news...
