Q: calming nerves while traveling

I have terrible anxiety while traveling for some reason. My anxiety usually leaves me sick. Typically I'll take a bus where there is a bathroom. However, this time I'm on a train with no bathroom. I already came, and on the way here my anxiety was terrible. I got extremely nauseous and almost threw up multiple times on the way. I brought a plastic bag just in case. My stomach was also in knots making me have to go to the bathroom. I'm really getting anxious about the ride home. I don't know why I get so anxious while traveling. Does anyone have any ideas to calm my nerves so I don't feel so sick? I try distractions like music and movies but they only help for a few minutes before the nerves come back. It's a three hour journey.

Hi
Hi there, can you not take Dramamine or some type of motion sickness aid? These also will relax you and allow you to rest. I'd say you need to know a physican you can talk to about thigns like this in the future to maybe give you a couple of valium or xanax to tide you over for the trip. I have to take a Xanax ANYTIME I get onto a plane. Trips to Vegas....or Cancun....its Xanax time and maybe a Bloody Mary. It works for me! I am relaxed and can enjoy the ride instead of panicking out its gonna crash or something! Good luck!

Would dramamine help if the sickness is from anxiety and not really from the motion? Thanks for the ideas!

Oh Yeah!
This stuff kinda works like an antihistamine.....it makes you sleepy and takes your mind off blowing chunks or being scared. Wish you knew someone who could give you a couple Xanax or valium....but I guess a couple dramimine would wrok....just make sure soemone wakes you up on your stop to get off! take you a couple, have a glsas of wine and put on your MP3 player.......turn it up! Play somehting like AC/DC Back in Black! Or KC and the Sunshine Band....something fun!

i get the same exact kind of anxiety. u have to keep telling urself that the '' sick feeling '' is all in ur head. anxiety is like being on a roller coaster. it sloshes your stomach all around and makes u feel ill when you're really not.

go online and look up some anxiety breathing techniques and mind techniques. really, the key is to get ur mind off of the anxiety.. if u could bring a friend to talk to, make a friend on the bus, bring a book.. anything. it's all in ur mind. hope u make it home safely. xoxo
