Q: Calculating cycle ?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 5th, 2009
I have never had luck calculating my cycle because it usually comes at a different time than what I calculate. I have never missed a period, though.
My last period was on October 14-17. I had unprotected sex on the 18,20, and 21st. Since the 23rd I have been "sick". This includes nausea, cramping, backache, headache, bloating, tiredness, gas, and sore breasts. I did take two HPTs and both were negative. I thought maybe all the symptoms were in my head but they continued even after the two negative results. Last night I found very light bleeding when I went to the bathroom. I thought maybe I was starting my period(even though it shouldn't start until next week) but in the morning there was nothing. I now have no idea what is going on. I try to keep pregnancy out of my mind so that it doesn't play any tricks on me. What could possibly be wrong? Is there any chance that I could be pregnant? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello and welcome to eHealth Forum!

Basically you had unprotected sex on 5th, 7th, and 8th day of the cycle. These days are usually the safe days of a normal 28 days cycle. They are unsafe days if you have a very short cycle with period every 21-24 days. Hence chances are very less that you are pregnant if you have a cycle of 26 days and above.

The bleeding that you noticed could be ovulation bleeding or implantation bleeding. Both are normal bleeds. If you have a short cycle then it can be implantation bleeding. The pregnancy test will not come positive before the expected or due date of period. Hence the tests you took were negative.

The symptoms of nausea, cramping, backache, headache, bloating, tiredness, gas, and sore breasts could be due to any STD or viral infection or stomach flu too. They do mimic symptoms of pregnancy, however these symptoms of pregnancy usually start after the missed periods.

Since a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net please discuss these possibilities with your doctor once. Hope this helps. Take care!
