I'm 20 years of age, turning 21 on the
16th of September. I weigh about 340+ lb.,
and I have hypertension. I was in fairly
decent shape before I went into this mass
depression phase that started when I was
16. I gained a lot of weight and pretty
much stopped taking care of myself all
together. Rarely getting outside for air
like I used to. For the passed 4-5 years
I've been under quite a bit of stress
relationship wise. Constant breakups and
whatnot I recently picked up smoking and
quit just as fast as I started. I used to
smoke Black & Milds Wine and Original with
the "Cancer Paper" removed about 3 times a
week for a little over a month. I could
never get addicted to any kind of drug.
I got into online gaming and became a bit
of a basement troll, day in and day out
sitting in front of the computer for at
least 16 to 20 hours a day. Because of it
I'd always have anxiety attacks and panic
attacks just before I joined game room and
started playing. A few years and a few
hundred pounds later it seems that I've
developed heart problems. As I said
before, I have hypertension. And I was
diagnosed about 2 years ago, from about 6
years of have never seeing a doctor. I
just kind of tossed it aside and didn't
worry about it like everything else that
was important at the time.
About a month ago I showed slight symptoms
of a heart attack/angina. Numbness on the
left cheek, and the feeling of blood being
drawn from my left arm. Or the feeling of
I was laying on my arm and the circulation
was being restricted. I went to the ER
because I really thought I was having a
stroke or heart attack. But the day before
that I had the feeling of poor circulation
in my right arm instead of my left but no
numbness in either of my cheeks. At the ER
they ran an E.K.G., blood test, and urine
test. The doctor told me everything looked
great, my blood pressure was just through
the roof. "It was probably white coat
syndrome", she says. When I got to the ER
it was about 151 over 102. Around the time
the tests were done and I had calmed down
from all the excitement, it was about 136
over 90.
Before the whole ER thing I was prescribed
medicine for my hypertension, Hyzaar.
Honestly I didn't start feeling this way
up until I started taking it. I was told
to keep taking them after I went to the
ER, but to make sure that it was the
Hyzaar. I stopped taking them for about a
week, felt perfect. Then I started taking
them about 3 times a week even though I
was supposed to take them once a day.
Again, testing to see if were the pills. I
started feeling a bit groggy during the
week, no energy, pretty much like i just
got over the flu. Then the next week I
took them everyday. That's when the fun
started. The numbness in my left cheek and
the poor circulation in my left arm
returned. But this time it was to the
point where the tips of my fingers had
gone cold, that didn't happen before. And
also I'd have a chest pain that never
left, during the whole week. The pains
would usually flare up around 4:40 AM or
so. I told my girlfriend about it and her
and I are worried sick. I told her I was
going to set up an appointment with my
doctor and spill my guts about every
single pain and tingle I'd feel, and I
did. He wanted another blood test because
the test the ER ran didn't have my
cholesterol. During the week of waiting
for the results I felt terrible. Chest
pains, cold hands, high fever, slight
numbness in my left cheek.
When I got the results back he said my
cholesterol was "outstandingly perfect",
and all my organs were in great shape as
well. He ran an E.K.G. as well and it
showed no problems what so ever. But he
did mention that some of his patients have
shown no abnormal heart regularities and
still had heart attacks. I don't think I
have to explain how much that scared the
crap out of me. He took me off of Hyzaar
and put me on Genaric Coreg, and 0.4mg of
nitroglycerin for the chest pains. After
the doctors visit I've only had to use the
nitroglycerin tablets twice, once right
after the visit and once later on that
night when I got a little upset about
something. But ever since then I didn't
have the on-going chest pains that I had
from the following 2 weeks. They jut
became recurrent pains. But I started to
get scared because now I'm showing a few
symptoms of CAD with a few minor
differences. I do have the fullness,
pressure, heaviness feeling in my chest
every now and then. Along with chest
pains. I also have the pains along the
back, neck, and jaw. The shoulder pain as
well. BUT, from what I've read there
should be shoulder pain only in the left
shoulder. The pains switch from my left
shoulder to right. But really it's not
even pain. It just feels like I've been
doing weight lifting, or picking up a
heavy box, the feeling of the muscles
being tired. I haven't been feeling dizzy
or lightheaded. I have felt a bit of
fatigue, but I guess that would happen to
anyone that only sleeps 5 to 7 hours a
night. And there's also a few weird things
I've noticed. Ever since I started feeling
this way I've been belching a lot, haven't
really had an appetite to eat. And when I
go for walks I have absolutely no chest
pains what so ever. So from those few
little things I try to keep my hopes up
and tell my self that it probably isn't
CAD, but something more innocent.
This is where my 50 billion questions come
in. All of this is really confusing me and
I'd really like to know what's going on to
be sure if it is or isn't CAD. I've
already accepted the fact that it could be
CAD, and if I do I'd like to know how bad
it is, and how much time I have. But
here's what I'd like to ask.
From what you've read, would you say that
I do have CAD or my heart could have just
gotten weaker from the constant panic
attacks and anxiety attacks?
Would long term effects of panic attacks
and anxiety attacks show these kind of
symptoms over time?
Would it be possible to develop CAD from
just having hypertension and being
overweight, even though E.K.G. and blood
tests show everything is fine?
Is it possible to have symptoms of CAD
without actually having CAD?
There were a few other questions, but I
can't remember them off the top of my
head. These four were the most important
questions, though.
I know I've written a lot here for this
being my very first post, but I don't know
where else to turn. If anyone out there
would take the time to read all of it and
help me figure all of this out I would
greatly appreciate it.

Have you been able to see a doctor about
this? There are a lot of questions that
I'm certainly not qualified to answer!!
This is a great website for CAD info
though:
I'm not sure about long term effects of
panic attacks. I haven't been able to
find any information stating whether or
not heart problems could be caused by
anxiety. I hope you've got some answers.
