Hi there.
I have had neck pain for 3years now. It is completely destroying my life in every way. I have had MRI's and other examinations. All doctors do is send me for tests but nothing they have done has helped. I have tendinitis in my shoulder, severe neck pain where the nerve gets trapped and i have to pull my head up off my shoulders and it clicks back into place. I have been to so many osteos, physios, chiros, acupunturists, surgeons and none have helped. When the exams are done it shows nothing very, very seriously wrong but there are problems. They keep on giving me more drugs and sending me to more osteos. After three years I have nearly given up hope. Should I go to surgery as nothing has helped. Surgery scares the hell out of me but I can't live like this anymore. Oh and to top it all off I am allergic to every cortisone.

Please help!

Hello Djtheron,

Welcome to this forum!!!

Sorry to read about the pain that you have had for three years. Obviously something isn't right.

I commend you for really trying to find the answer with the MRIs, exams and the various medical people you have communicated with.

Djtheron, in your list of medical people I did not read "spinal surgeon". You said you have been to a surgeon, but no reference to a spinal surgeon. I my opinion, he/she is the person you need to see. In fact, not just one, but two for three. Several professional medical opinions are always a good idea in my opinion.

Search for the very best spinal surgeons who you can find in your area.

"Should I go to surgery" - Not in my opinion. Not until a spinal surgeon has determined what is causing your problem. I'm just a spiney like most here, however your statement "severe neck pain where the nerve gets trapped" is most concerning.

PLEASE do see a spinal surgeon, as they are the ones who truly specialize in issues of the spine.

I wish you the best. Do stay in touch and let us know how things go for you.

hello
WOW!
I thought the post above I was reading was me.
I have the same kind of pain and I feel the same. I am scared of surgery as it would be
a exploring one as would yours since your many Doctor's do not know whats wrong.
I am wondering what kinds of drugs have to tried, I am currently on duragesic/ fentanyl
which is a patch that ranges from 12.5 mcg and goes up from there, I take 150 mcg, then I take the marjauna pill 2 x's a day 1 in the am and 1 in the pm helps the fentanyl (supposedly), Arthotech 50mg twice daily (pain/anti-inflamitory), and for break through
pain and/or every four hours when needed 20 mg
of morphine (orally), Then to help with the nausea/vomiting 3 anit-nauseants. Then a anti-depressant for chornic pain depression, and a new one called amatrypaline for helping with pain. Also ONE THING that ACTUALLY eases
some of the PAIN for a brief period a nerve burn I get it done every 3-4 months regularly.
Helps me for about 6-8 weeks then the pain starts to climb again from post nerve burn level 4-5 back to level 10 . My nerve burns this time are very very late and my pain level is 10 these days. The doctor name for a nerve burm is rhysodimy *spelled wrong
I will not kid you this proceedure hurts. I do not mean a little hurt I am talking PAIN
I cry through the entire proceedure. The burning of the nerve kind of feels like
accidentally burning your head with a curling iron only you can no pull it away. they do give you freezing but it still hurts no matter how much freezing is in. Also you are wake for the entire thing because it is your neck and the wrong nerve and something bad could happen.
I did not tell you this to scare you. As I do this every 3-4 months and have since October 2005, I started with a block then a burn as it lasts longer. I have 3 young children and I did it to have a life with them and my husband. you can pm me anytime.
Maybe we could help eachother as I understand
what you are going through. the only differnce is I have C1-C2 and C5-C6 plus other partsdown the right side of my body. I am 34 years old.
Well I hope we could be friends,
Take care
will be praying for you
