Hello, my son has been experiencing bouts
of diarrhea on and off for about 9 months.
We have taken him to the ped. And after
several attempts to wipe out any
foods/dairy allergies that could be
causing the prob. They finally did a
stool sample. He had a parasite that the
Dr. Said doesn't affect most people but
they treated it with flagyl (sp?). The
diarrhea worsened and had blood in it. I
immed. Took him to a gi specialist and
they found he has ulcers on his colon and
c.Dificil which they are treating with
vancomycin. I am afraid that treating
with yet another antibiotic is just going
to make it worse. I asked the Dr. If I
should give him any probiotic to help his
colon recover but was told this will
counteract the antibiotic. Is this
correct? Should we even be disrupting his
colon even more with more anti-biotics?
Anybody had experience with this?

C Diff Posted: 11-03-05 00:09am
C-diff, the short name, is a bacteria that
lives in your intestines normally. In
most people, it causes no problems.
Sometimes when you go on antibiotics, it
creates an environment where c-diff can
flourish, then you get diarrhea. The
appropriate treatment is flagyl and
vancomycin. Better results with oral
vancomycin when it can be tolerated than
by intravenous.
Hope this helps

My Mother is in a ITU unit after a
operation she is 72 years old and she has
c.Dificil, which she has had for 4 weeks,
the floor into the ITU unit has not been
cleaned since the 12th of May 2007 it is
now the 7th June 2007.
I do not want to lose my mother what can I
do to help her c.Dificil.
She is not fighting this desease as during
the operation her spin was injured and now
she has no feeling of her lower body, she
has also had an infection in the wound and
had to have more sugery.
There must be something we can do to save
my Mother.
