Q: Butt muscle pain

Whenever i sit, my butt cheeks hurt. Not the bone.
I work for 8hrs, sitting of course. i give myself reasons to take the stairs upstairs so that i could get my butt off the chair. It mostly happened when i sit on soft chairs.
I thought exercising would help, but it isn't. Is it because i sit for a long period of time?
How would you recommend i get rid of this.

Daughter has butt muscle pain also
For the past couple of days my 10 year old has been complaining that her butt cheek muscles have been hurting. She finds it hard to sit down. She says its not her anus or irritation of the skin on her butt, but it feels as if she has been sitting on something hard. I could not figure out what could be causing this so I am searching the net to see if I can find some explanation.
