My father in law was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and he just broke the news to the family 2 weeks ago, when he started his hormonal treatment. Before the treatment, and up to this point, he has been experiencing occasional dark bleeding from his anus. When these 'episodes' are taking place, he also has a burning pain in his stomach.

I've researched the symptoms, and i'm seeing that the symptoms sound like a gastric ulcer.

Is it possible that this cancer has spread to his stomach? He's 68 years old.

I have urged him to go see his doctor about it, and he will, but i'd like to bring some information to the table, if possible.

Thank you for your replies.

Is he bleeding mainly after the stool has passed, or the blood comes before the stool or it comes without stool?
Are the consistency and volume of the stool changed, too?
Has he experienced vomiting blood (vomit containing dark brown bits of clotted blood, with an appearance like ground coffee)?
