bumps underneath the shaft of penis
Posted: 05-28-08 21:42pm

Hi doctor,
I'm male, circumcised, 22 years old, and with my girlfriend, 15 days ago, I had a sexual intercourse that was somewhat rough. I felt that my condom broke, however I didn't stop. The next day my groin was swollen on the right side of my shaft and on the lower center side of shaft as well. I thought it was due to hard friction, so i decided to wait for a while hoping it would recede. One week later the swelling did recede, however underneath the shaft skin, where swellings used to be, there is one firm bump, 1 mm in diameter, located on the right side of the shaft; and cluster of 4-5 smaller bumps on the bottom center of the shaft. They are not painful, do not cause itching and there is no any kind of discoloration. These bumps are underneath the skin and are able to move along with the shaft as they do not seem to be attached to penis itself. However, they do seem to get harder when my groin is erected. Could this be sign of HIV? I'm very worried, didn't sleep in days and I would very appreciate your answer.

There is no need to worry!
The bumps you have are probably lymphocele, swelling due to blockage of the lymphatic channels in the penis, usually following prolonged or especially energetic intercourse or masturbation.
Swellings then gradually subside over few days or a week, but, if one of the blocked lymphatic channels clots up, the swelling doesn't go down and it stays as a hard area, which can be easily felt ( I guess as in your case)

Are the swellings cord-like?

Best wishes!

Hi Marija,
Thank you so much for your response, I really really appreciate it.
Yes the intercourse was prolonged, very energetic on moments and this group of bumps on the center of shaft does appear to be cord like. They are very small and can be hardly noticed, but I can feel it while my groin is erected. When my groin is not erected, the skin in this area looks slightly thickened. Same goes for the single bump located on the right side of shaft.

Will this ever go away by itself? It's been 16 days now, 9 since I noticed these bumps, and they are still there.

best regards,
matt

You are welcome!
It is caused by temporary blockage of the lymphatic channels, so, it will go away on its own, and there are no after-effects.

You can try to message it gently to help it subside.

@Z51
No I haven't tried topical creams. Since these bumps are underneath the skin, I guessed creams won't to much to remove them. Thank you however for your input.

@Marija
What you do in here is very noble of you and I wish you best of luck in your career and your life.
Thank you.
