Q: Bulging eye with TMJ

Anyone have or had problems with one eye appear to be bulging, or one eyelid appear to be drooping due to TMJ? Had this problem in the past (20 year TMJ vet? - new to this forum) and all of a sudden it's back, but appears more pronounced than in the past.

Have had lots of work done in the past via chiropractor, chirodontics, myofascia release, craniosacral, etc. (surgery was advised 20 years ago, but I declined as they couldn't make any promises). Have been OK past few years (don't think you're ever 100% free of TMJ, just my opinion, but I'll settle for comfortable) ... but recently the right jaw flaired up again, left eye appears to be bulging and sometimes right eyelid appears to droop.

I've seen these symptoms listed on different sites as part of TMJ, but curious if anyone else has or have had theses symptoms and how you may have been helped. Thanks!

TMJ or not?
I am actually having the same problem right now...one-sided. It seems to be stumping all my docs. Done all kinds of CT scans and they can't find anything wrong. Going to see a TMJ specialist. Did you ever discover what the issue was?

TMJ-Bulging Eye & Drooping Eyelid
I believe mine is a combination of muscles involved with TMJ as well as recently being diagnosed with a thyroid problem which also affects the eye - causing one of my eyelids to retract slightly, giving the appearance of a bulging eyelid. Although it is good to see a TMJ specialist, most TMJ specialists will not admit, or perhaps do not even understand, the muscle involvement between the jaw and drooping eyelid (even though you can read all over about symptoms of TMJ and that's one of them). It's a muscle involvement connected with the TM Joint. I found one dentist who works with "the whole body" and understands this, but he is now retired. He was able to help me with some work with muscles, etc. There are some Osteopaths who understand this, but are difficult to find one like that. I did search the Internet and found some TMJ exercises that actually helped to some degree. You may want to verify that you do not also have a thyroid problem - as I said, I believe my eye probelms are a combination of both. I am now doing exercises for both the thyroid eye (retracting eyelid) as well as exercises for the TMJ which helps the drooping eyelid. I am some better after a few months of this and will continue those. Unfortunately, "specialists" are just that - they specialize in one area of the body and do not understand that the body "acts as a whole" ... we are all connected, we are not bits and pieces glued together. If you are interested, I can try to find the sites where I retrieved some of the exercises from that I am using, for you. Let me know. It would also be good to confirm that you do not have a thyroid issue as well, though, so you know what you're dealing with. Understand all the CT's, etc. you've been through ... been there, done that, too. Somtimes the docs make you feel like you're not in your right mind! Smile Good luck to you.
