Hi. I just found out that my 13-year old daughter has a brown, shadowy ring around her left areola. She told me she's had it for a month now. It is not tender. There appears to be no rash, she says it's not itchy. She feels no lumps either. She plays soccer. At first I thought it was a bruise since the girls play soccer pretty rough at this age. But she hasn't noticed the light brown ring changing all that much, whereas a bruise would eventually start to fade. She has not started her menstrual cycle yet. She has been very emotional lately. Could this ring be the result of hormonal changes? Thank you, in advance, for your reply!

Hello,

Welcome to ehealthforum

Brown ring around areola or any other changes in the breasts can be due to the hormonal fluctuations occuring in the body.Since there is no other symptom as pain, lump, itching, fever it does not seem like an infection and might be symptoms of Menarche(starting of periods).During puberty girl undergoes hormonal changes in the body. This could also be the reason of her being too emotional.
Keep observing the ring at intervals. If there are any changes as pain, lump get it evaluated by your Healthcare Provider.

Take Care!

It's probably due to her bra and the soap you use on her bras.

Yes this is just hormonal changes that appear on her body. If this is not paining then wait for any other change. Otherwise see your doctor.
