I began taking Ortho Tri Cyclen 7 years ago when I was 14. I switched to the generic version about 2 years ago and did not have problems initially. When I started dating my current boyfriend a year and a half ago, I began bleeding during intercourse. We do have unprotected sex, however I am not pregnant. It is usually bright red blood. The first week and a half after my period is usually the time I can have sex without bleeding. But after that, I tend to have light brown discharge until I get my period again and if I try to have intercourse during this time, I usually end up bleeding again. I went to my doctor's and she said the generic version might not be strong enough for me so I switched to Loestrin24Fe. I expected to have brown spotting during the first few months of taking a new birth control. Now that I am in my 5th month of taking this new birth control, my problem is still the same. Please help me! This is ruining my sex life and is making me worry this is just how it is going to be.

I also started birth control at a young age [15] for regulation purposes and was able to have very good results until I turned 19... then it all went downhill. I started having spotting problems due to a hormonal imbalance, emotional problems... you name it I had it. I think it's because after you hit a certain age [for some people not all] your body evens out and can no longer handle the extra hormones in the pill. I had a tubal ligation done Nov. of 2008 and I LOVE life again. If you really want to take birth control, you need to talk with your doctor again because those pills aren't right for you. If they were, you wouldn't be spotting like you are. Hell, if anything, ask about the copper IUD that contains NO hormones and is good for 10 years! rainbow
