You should schedule something with a gyno now that you're sexually active.

Brown discharge can be from a number of things, I had assumed since it was a week after your period that it was just old blood finding it's way out and I still think that's what it is, unless of course you have other symptoms.

Who knows? Did you get a little irritated from sex last night? This blood could be from anything and unless you get more symptoms, I'd say you're fine.

Brown discharge and spotting between periods does not necessarily mean you are pregnant although it could very well be the case. A number of other things which could bring about the same result is:
1. Late exit of old blood from the last period. (This will look brown)
2. It could actually be your period! This happened to me and it freaked me out as i did not expect my period for another week and it was never brown like this before. This brown discharge lasted approximately 5 to 6 days. I still went to the doctors to get a pregnancy test which came back negative. She told me not to expect my period as what i experienced WAS my period.
3. Brown discharge and irregular periods can also be brought upon by stress, change in diet, or interrupted sleeping patterns.
4. Injury or tearing due to sex.
5. It could also be a number of more serious cases eg polyps, cervical cancer etc

If you experience any pain, or excessive bleeding, or the discharge smells really bad please have this checked out. Or if you have any concerns you should have this checked out anyway.

I hope this helps. I had researched an enormous amount and had many sleepless nights waiting to find out what this could all mean while waiting for my blood test results. I just felt that most people on many different forums jumped to quickly to the conclusion that it was a pregnancy and i felt i should also point out that it could be so many different other things as i mentioned above.

I have the same question as the person who posted this except I am on the pill, could it still be all the same causes even those my periods are regulated by it? I''ve been on it for almost 2 years and never had anything like this...

I''m in the same situation right now.I had this brown discharge which lasted for 2 days. I was expecting my period to come in a few days but hoping the discharge isn''t a sign of pregnancy. Btw, i am also on the pill but wasn''t really consistent especially on the last 7 days before expecting my period.

I have had this for years, all the things metioned above could be the case, but for me it was a hormonal imbalance.

i have the same case, having brown vaginal discharge like it's old blood form my period and it's really affecting my sex life, my husband and i can't have sex unless the discharge disappears. example. i just had my period, it usually lasts from 3-5 days (the fifth day is virtually mens-free) but just last month i have this brown discahrge following my period and it's like i still have my period for 15 days! i don't know if this is still normal. and we also don't use any form of contraceptives (even withdrawal) and i am wondering why i don't get pregnant. -mca

Okay so I've also have the "old blood" thing going on right now. Does anyone notice a vinegar kind of smell to it?? I'm pretty sure I dont have any kind of infection because I dont have any other symptoms... but Im curious if anyone else has this smell...

Yes I have the vinegar smell too and I'm scared I might be pregnant because I've been having a lot of stomach problems lately including nausea and diarrhea an headaches

I have the same thing too... I noticed it yesterday. My cycle stopped on the 5th. No other symptoms other than the brown vaginal discharge that just wont STOP it seems like. The only thing I can think of that has changed for me is my husband works nights now on 12 hr shifts so I am on his sleep pattern. Sleep days Awake nights. Could this be a result of it like disturbed sleep pattern that is listed as one of the possible diagnoses?

hi i have just started with this today. i miscarried around 2 month ago and 10 days ago got my first period after this time, now i am having a very light brown discharge, it doesn't smell or itchy, but i also have a few other symptoms as i have lower back pain, feel sick on and off through the day, been getting dizzy spells and also cramping in my lower abdo. is this normal or am i pregnant again as i don't think i can take another miscarriage so soon after the last 1

okay ive been on the same pill for at least 5 months and never had any brown discharge until about yesterday. i shouldnt start my period for another week and a half...any ideas of what it is??

i have the same thing.. i woke up thismorning and there it was... im not on the pill and me and my bf had sex a week ago and the condom broke.. i took a morning after pill and took it 23 hours after the accident.. am i pregnant?

i've been having this problem on and off for about....3 weeks now?
i am not sexually active with other people, and therefore pregnancy is completely ruled out.

my period usually starts and weans off in this manner, but that was about 3 weeks ago, so it concerns me that i'm still experiencing this 3 weeks later. i do not have any other symptoms - although i have noticed that after masturbation, there is some light blood coloration in the discharge. exercise also seems to promote more bleeding, although again, it is quite light, like spotting.

anyone have any thoughts?

I have been doing some research, and i'D suggest you go and see your doctor. The same thing is happening to me, only I have an implant for my contraception, which is giving me a hormone imbalance and also giving me irregular periods, so I'm fairly sure this is just a case of "old blood" for me.

However the symptoms you have described sound a little more serious. But I wouldn't be freaking out. It's usually a case of something curable like chlamydia, gonnorria or vaginal warts. Most of which you be prescribe with some antibiotics or just undergo a simple procedure. However if you leave it they can spread to other areas like your tubes and can cause difficulties in becoming pregnant, so it is important that you do go and see your doctor. Also if you are experiencing any other symptoms like cramping, soreness, itchiness, urgency to urinate, pain or burning when urinating, excessive bleeding and if the discharge smell becomes quite offensive or green I would be booking an appointment straight away.

I've been experiencing the same! Im a little nervous about the pregnancy option of this brown discharge, being that I did have unprotected sex about 2 weeks ago, but I got my period the next day, so idk :/ Maybe I should go to the GYN and see whats going on... I have been experiencing alot of stress, change of diet, exercise in the past 2 weeks also, so I'm hoping its hormonal. Does anyone else have a subtle odor to the discharge? Eh :/

I first noticed a brown discharge after my last period which was about 2 and half weeks ago. I haven't had many other symptoms, but the discharge does have an odor to it. I am sexually active but i've always used a condom, not the pill. I'm hoping this is more of a hormonal imbalance? Thoughts about seeing a doctor?

I've been having the same problem though bit with added stuff. I had my period last week and then 5 days after it stopped I start bleeding again and it only last for 2 days and stopped today. I also when I urinate have clear discharge coming it. It's not burning or anything and I'm not having cramps. My stomach feels weird but they are not menstrual cramps. I've had unprotected sex within the last month and before then too. I took a pregnancy test at home and got a positive along with two invalidate and a negative. I went to the doctors and they tested me and said it was negative and tested me for stds and it came back negative too. Just wondering if there's any possibilty if i still could be pregnant? Doc did say it could of been to early to test and might not have been an accurate reading so I'm not sure....any advice?

I'd be scheduling another appointment with your doctor for another pregnancy test. What your doctor says is true, it may be too early.

I've been having very dark brown loose (watery) discharge for about a week now. I'm on the pill and expecting my period for next week. I haven't had sex in 2 months. What might this be?
