Q: Brown clumpy period ?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 15th, 2009
I recently had what I assume was my period. It was extreamly light, not enough for a tampon, lasted for 7 days and was accomponied by minstral cramps. However it was brown and kind of clumpy, almost like the last day of your period, but it lasted the full week. I am still noticing a littl bit of the same thing here and there even though the period ended yesterday. It was the right time for my period so the timing was not off. I have also never had sex. Upon looking this up on line the only things that came up were about pregnancy.

For the last month I have not been sleeping regularly and have not been eating/exercising as well as I should have been (I am a student and therefore have no time for anything). I don't think these are side affects though.

Does anyone know what this is? Should I go get it checked out? The school nurse was more conserned that I wasn't sleeping than she was that I was having a crazy cycle.

Vaginal and Uterus Health Answer A6344

According to the data you provided, the menstrual period you reported was within normal variations. The menstrual period can vary both in color and in quantity of lost blood. It lasts from 3 to 7 days. Heavy bleeding for longer period needs medical examination. In your case, no medical examination is needed. However, if this condition repeats again the next few periods you might want to schedule an appointment with your gynecologist.
