Should a doctor break the water of a pregnant woman and then release her from the hospital? And not over night or even for a day or two. But for weeks.

Labor and Delivery Answer A10431
Hi,
Welcome to the ehealthforum. I am glad to help you out.

Ideally, amniotomy or artificial rupture of the membranes is done to induce labour and the patients are not sent back after that.

The patient is kept for the observation and monitoring as the delivery can happen any time after the amniotomy.

Once the amniotomy is done, then the labour is induced with drugs if it doesn’t happen spontaneously as the risk of infection increases with amniotomy.

I sincerely hope this information helps. Take care.
