Broken Tibia Pain Question

I broke my right tibia 9 days ago and got casted that night. I've been elevating it and not putting any weight on. I went back for a checkup today and the doc said it's healing well and won't need surgery, but starting this morning I've had a sharp pain when I move my leg certain ways along the left side of my leg. This seems new. The doc didn't seem too concerned but I'm worried something is wrong. Has anyone else experienced this?

AdamF,

It is not uncommon to have some discomfort around the fracture site early on. The edges of the bone move slightly, which is okay, but they can pinch the periosteum, which the outer lining of the bone. The periosteum has a lot of nerve fibers in it, and it is responsible for most of the pain associated with fractures.

However, if the pain persists or gets worse, you should contact your surgeon.

Good luck.
