My husband broke his tib and fib on 2/19. He had a closed reduction on 2/22, a long leg cast change two weeks later and weekly x-rays.
His recent x-rays have shown little to no bone growth. His primary orthopaedic specialist has said that this is normal and it takes some time for these bones to grow.
But his primary ortho was not in today and so he saw a different doctor that stated it's concerning that there is not yet any growth this many weeks after the fracture. I'm not sure who to believe. His primary ortho is on vacation all this week and all next week, soooo...not really sure what to make of it.
While there today, he had his cast changed to a short cast. We knew that he likely had a blister on his heel, but were not quite prepared for the mess that his heel and ankle were. Not to be graphic, but it was oozing so much that it was dripping out of the assistant's hands.
So they gave him a short cast but left the heel open.
My primary question is...is it expected for there to be little bone growth on the tib after 7 weeks in the long leg cast?
