Q: Broken foot : slow healing

Broke fourth metarsal about 15 weeks ago. Placed in boot for about 12 weeks. Dr. says bone is healing. Now in hard sole shoe. At end of day foot and ankle are now very swollen. While in boot swelling miminal. Foot now more sore then while in boot. Does this make any sense? Discouraging as healing process seems beyond normal. Any ideas?
