My son broke his elbow six weeks ago. It was called a supracondylar fracture. He had the cast put on and I was told to come back in six weeks to have it removed. Upon his return it was Xrayed again and the cast was removed. My son now cannot straighten his arm beyond 85%, he cannot straighten it past 45 degrees. His elow is a funny shape. The consultant said that the break has healed nicely and this was confirmed when I saw the x-ray. However, he also said that the joint had become out of line - possibly due to the cast being too loose and not at the right angle. He told us that my son may never get a full range of movement and that if it becomes a problem we could possibly have it broken and re-set when he's about 10. I feel very agreeved as my son is very active and into sports. I realise that it will take time for him to build up the muscle and for it to loosen up - however, if the joint is out of line then he will not be able to use it properly. He cannot drink, clean his teeth, climb, brush his hair or do anything much that a little boy of 7 should be able to do. It was his right arm and he is right handed. The Consultant wants to see him in three months. Our GP said to wait a couple of weeks to see how it goes. I asked if physio would help and she said possibly. I can't get an appointment for three weeks!!! What should I do?

Have you talked with your Orthopedist about this?...I know where you are as our son was very into sports at this age....Even if they had to put him under and rebreak it so it would heal right, to me it would make more sense than where he is now....Please keep us advised on what happens...Good luck...
