Q: Bridge failing ?

I have a six tooth bridge that makes up all of my front six teeth. The bridge was installed by a dentist in another city less than two years ago. Since that time I have moved and begun seeing a new dentist. She was looking at my recent x-rays and remarked that my bridge would fail soon because there are two spots where it is not flush with the teeth it is anchored to. She showed me the x-rays and pointed out what look like very tiny gaps between the top of the bridge that overlays the tooth and the remaining top part of the tooth that appears to be just outside of the gums. The x-ray had to be magnified to see these gaps.
I have not had any problems with the bridge and have kept it very clean. She gave me copies of my x-rays to take to my old dentist. She also mentioned that if I had got the bridge done at her office, the redo would be free. I'm not sure if she is giving me sound advice or just looking to make some extra money by scaring me into allowing her to redo the bridge. Should this be a legitimate concern?

I have a bridge on one side of my back teeth...Knowing how they work I understand what you are saying...Why did you go to see her to start?...Were you having problems with the bridge or just for a visit...If she just checked over your teeth or cleaned them, I would see the red caution flag...If you went because you were having problems, then I would get a second opinion....

You are talking about a lot of money...With the economy as it is, she probably could be doing what you say is possible...I guess if it was me I would wait for it to fail...

Seeing I have had mine for over 20 years, I am still not worried...Stay away from sticky candy, and foods that are bothersome for you...

Good luck,

Caroline
