I have been having problems with what the doctors say is just anxiety disorder for about ten months now. It all started when I drank too much black coffee and some red bull, I was also a bit stressed out about work and family life. Ever since my first attack I've been having problems with depression, loss of breath, dizziness and terrible fatigue. I started to think that I had a caffeine allergy as I would have a panic attack every time I even had a sip of coke. I have been staying far from any caffeine, chocolate etc. but today I had a "caffeine free" root beer and that just did me in. I can barely breath and I feel all achy and the only thing that helps is laying down in a quiet room for and hour or so. I also suspect I have a hormonal imbalance as this all started after I stopped taking the birth control pill after six years. I need to find out what is wrong with me I went from being very energetic and happy to being weak, tired, out of breath, worried about everything and scared of everything. This all happened overnight. If you have any input I would really appreciate it.

careful
you are falling right into the panic attack whirlpool. You are going to start thinking this triggers the attacks so i should stop that and pretty soon you wont be doing much of anything. The same thing happened to me. I just finished eating a glazed donut then i had my first panic attack. So no more sugar for me. Then i just kept on having them until i was avoiding pretty much everything and everyone. I also started experiencing depersonalization/derealization. So be careful! Please it really sucks

Hey monalisa090,
I must agree with joshhar09 in is warning to be careful.
What you are experiencing are chronic panic attacks, due to your anxiety. I would say that the overload of caffeine from all of the coffee and energy drinks triggered the process. Because of all of the stimulant in your blood, your body overreacted to a stressor that would normally only cause an anxiety reaction. Since this episode, anything that reminds you, subconsciously or consciously, of what caused your initial panic attack is going to cause subsequent panic attacks. This necessarily isn't the caffeine; the caffeine was nothing more than a catalyst. There is something in your environment that is causing you to have this reaction, either someone you are with, a place, or something else. My suggestion is to start taking St. John's Wort to help curb the feelings of panic and hopefully bring them down to a more suitable level. If you are sexually active and the pill was your only method of birth control then I would strongly recommend going back on them to mitigate the risk of unintended pregnancy (an unintended pregnancy would only elevate your anxiety again). You can get through this, you just need to give yourself some time, surround yourself with friends and family who love and support you, and try to get yourself back to a happy medium.
Hope this helps,
-Mel

Some of the symptoms you have could also be related to a thyroid problem.
You should insist that your doctor run a thyroid panel to rule that out
