Current medical status: recently had reaccuring UTI (treated now)
Current medical treatment: taking birth control

Sometimes the normal fluctuation of the female hormones might cause increased sensitivity of the breasts. If you had this condition for only a couple of days and the start of your period is close, then this might be the explanation for the condition. The breasts might stay over sensitized and even sore within the first several days of the period. This condition does not necessarily repeat with every menstrual cycle.

If it lasts longer (up to two weeks), you might want to visit your gynecologist for a manual breast exam. An x-ray and/or ultrasound of the breasts might be recommended as well.
