I am 39, started my periods at age 10 and have had 2 children both before age 30. What are the risks of using the implantable birth control method with someone who has a family hx of breast ca? My mother, aunt and 1st cousin have all had breast ca. (my mother passed away 30 years ago, but aunt and cousin are fine now) Currently I am on oral pills, but want to get away from that and wonder if the implant is less of a risk.

Thank you for your reply,

Amy

According to the new clinical studies, the link between hormonal contraceptives and breast cancer is less present, and with the use of new combination of hormones in OCs the risk for breast cancer in women with family history of breast cancer is almost equal with the one in women without family history of breast cancer.
Contraceptive implants have the same side effect, an increased risk for breast cancer.
If you are really concerned, try to switch to not hormonal method of contraception.
