I have been taking Seasonale for over four years now, and within the last year changed to the generic Seasonale, Jolessa. I have never had a problem with either medication.

However, I have now had spotting/bleeding for the past three weeks. At first it was pretty negligible, but now it's pretty much at the same consistency and flow of a regular period. I just had my period the first week in August, so technically shouldn't get my period until the end of October.

I am getting concerned (and annoyed). The only difference I can think of over the past two months is that I started taking Wellbutrin, but I haven't found any interactions between these two on the internet.

Anyone have this happen? I've been trying to get through to my doctor to no avail.

Spotting and other irregular bleeding could be a side effect of the birth control pill type Jolessa. According to the manufacturer's instructions if irregular bleeding lasts for more tha 7 days you should consult your gynecologist.

Irregular vaginal bleeding can be also due to some other reason not related to Jolessa. For example you may have an endometrial polyp, submucosal myoma, infection etc. that can also cause irregular vaginal bleeding.

I am having the exact same problem but I am not taking any other medications! I took Seasonale for almost two years and recently had to switch to Jolessa (generic Seasonale) and now I am having spotting/bleeding two weeks before my period.

Jolessa BirthControl Pills
Oh my gosh I am on day 21...thank God today was just a tiny spot and yesterday very little and then it ceased until after I had relations with my husband it came pouring out again. I stopped taking Jolessa altogether after I realized this to be a side effect. I had clots that looked like liver pieces. I will nevertake it again.

wellbutrin and jolessa
I am on jolessa and wellbutrin as well. About two weeks into starting the wellbutrin, I began bleeding. It has not stopped yet. Going on day 16. Im assuming its because of the hormones from both the wellbutrin and jolessa. I hope my body works itself out because I would hate to be off either one. Going to call the dr tomorrow...

Wondering what to do about Jolessa (Generic Seasonale)
Hi,
I've just read all these comments, and the same thing is happening to me. I started with Seasonale, then went to one generic and then another. The first 3 months I was on Jolessa, I was fine. I had no break through bleeding, cramps, or anything. Now, that I'm on my next pack, it's totally changed. I keep getting periods, it's way more than break through bleeding, and I have cramps, moods, etc. I've tried calling my dr. and they just blow it off as switching to a generic. I'm tired of this and never knowing when my period is going to come. I was just curious what some of you decided to do? Thanks so much!

Wellbutrin and Jolessa
OH MY GOODNESS. I am on Wellbutrin and Jolessa and it's like the never ending red tide. Am stopping now. I just started birth control with Jolessa and have been bleeding for a very long time. and then it stopped. and now it's ridiculous again. Does anyone know if this is going to be the case with all birth control methods while I am on Wellbutrin?

Jolessa
I'm on Jolessa as well and I had my period for 4 months straight... My GYN said my body had to get used to it as a trial pack.... I bled through a whole pack along with the first month of my second pack... I was off the 2nd month and it was like PARTY, then I got my period back the last month. I hate this pill... I have the bloated feeling everyday... Im always hungry.. and when I get 12 hours of sleep.... I feel like I havent slept in ages, Im constantly tired. This pill sucks!

You do not have to suffer this way. Ask your doctor to try another pill with a different formulation. Getting used to it means 3 to 6 weeks, not 4 months!!

Also remember to take an iron supplement (but do not overdose). When you bled like that, you are losng iron. Iron helps carry oxygen through your blood stream. With a lack of iron, there are not enough oxygen and you will feel permanently tired, lackluster and without energy.

Bleeding
Wellbutrin is not the problem. I was taking Jolessa by itself and i could not stop bleeding. These pills should not be on the market, period. So whoever is taking them and having the same problem, get off this drug and call your doctor. Bleeding for more than 7 days when your period has already passed, is not normal.

It is actually a known and often expected side effect of birth control pills called breakthrough bleeding. Speak to your doctor to try a different type of pill, or if changing the way you take it can be temporarily changed to stop the bleeding. Different women react differently to the two types of hormones in the pill. A different combination of these hormones in different pills can make your body react differently to different brands of pills. So you and your doctor need to find the best combination for your body.

If pills are taken off the market because of breakthrough bleeding, there would be no birth control pills available. Sometimes all that is needed is a bit of common sense, reading the patient insert and talking to your doctor or nurse when it does not work like it should.

I have been taking Jolessa for just over a year now and all of a sudden started to breakthrough bleed. I called my doctor about it and am going to have an appointment. I recently took antibiotics about a month ago and made sure to ask my doctor about side effects with the birth control. She said there were none. I started spotting Tuesday and by the end of the day was full blown period. It is Sunday now and still on a light period.

The worst birth control I've ever taken
I was on the second day of my fourth week taking Jolessa and started having break though bleeding and spotting slightly through the days for two weeks the at the end of my 6th week decided to stop taking it because I was becoming an emotional wreck and bleeding more and more each day. It has now been 3 days since the last pill I took and for the past 3 days I've literally been urinating pure blood and am having the equivalent to the worst period EVER the bleeding won't stop at all ad the cramps are unbearable. I wish I never started taking this pill. I wanted to have 4 periods a year.... Not one never ending period :/

Jolessa
I hae also been on Jolessa for about 4 months, and I had nothing for the first 3 months and now the spotting is horrible. I also get random cramps. I am planning on going off this. Does anyone have any advice as to what will happen when I go off it. I presume I would just have my normal period, and then it would stop. My periods have always been very light anyways and only last about 3 to 4 days...
