I'm 23 weeks today actually, and last
night I started getting these really weird
pains in my stomach, at first I kinda
knocked it up to it being gas, but they
really started hurting after a while. I
noticed while trying to put pressure on
the pain when it was happening that my
stomach was getting really really hard and
that made me think that maybe it wasnt
gas. I was patient and the pains kept
happening sometimes every 4 or 5 minutes
and sometimes as far out as every 20-30
minutes. I thought maybe they were
Braxton Hicks contractions but I did some
research as I was up all night and from
what I read they said that Braxton Hicks
shouldn't happen more than once or twice
an hour, these definately happened way
more that twice an hour, and they hurt,
not unbearable, but definately made me
keel over. I of course called my Dr first
thing this morning and that was 3 hours
ago and they still haven't gotten back to
me. My husband and mom want me to go to
the hospital, but I would feel so stupid
going to the hospital and turns out it's
just gas or braxton hicks or my uterus
expanding or something. Has anyone had
similar problems any suggestions?

I believe 23 weeks is way too early to
feel braxton hicks contractions. I would
have put it down as gas pains. If you
were keeling over with pain, and it was
the baby, then I think you would have
started bleeding, lost the baby, or at
least be hospitalized pretty soon after
you started feeling that way.
You did the right thing tho. When
something just doesn't feel right, it's
better to be safe than sorry. As for
keeping this from happening again, you
might want to remember what you ate that
day or the day before so that you know to
avoid that in the future if it was the
thing that you ate. Or it could have just
been some bug you picked up.
Since everything is kind of in the same
place and things get a little smushed from
your expanding uterus, it is hard to know
what exactly is going on, especially if
you've never had labor pains before.
Don't ever feel silly and feel free to
post again if you ever have questions I'm glad you are
ok.

I started getting Braxton-Hicks
contractions at 22 weeks and told my
doctor. They said if I had 4-6 in an hour
or if they started to form a pattern to
call immediately. They do make your uterus
hard but they aren't supposed to hurt.
They are supposed to be irregular and not
form a pattern. They are supposed to go
away if you lie down and stay hydrated.
I've never heard of BH contractions
accompanied by gas pains, although I am
sure it could happen. If that had happened
to me, I would definitely get on the phone
with a medical professional as soon as
possible or go in to be checked out.
