Had brachytherapy 7 years ago, now experiencing urination problems. urologist Tried to perform a cystoscopy but was blocked by scar tissue. Now he is going to remove the scar tissue to allow exam of bladder.
Has anyone had similar experience? The doctors involved in my treatment, GP, Radiation Oncologist & Urologist are all seem to be too busy to explain results or are they covering up for lack of experience?

Brachtherapy post-procedure danger
My Dad had brachtherapy at a major hospital in Wisconsin about 10 years ago. The radiation has caused major problems since then. He's had an anal fistula which is basically where there's a big hole on the inside in that region of his body - in his case causing a link between his colon and his ureter I guess - so he pees from his rectum, and feces come out his penis. I don't think you can expect a lot of straight talk from doctors on this one.

Recently they tried to catheterize and ran into a lot of scar tissue, but were able with a team of doctors and special equipment - were able to do it.

I would strongly advise anyone considering brachytherapy to consider this posting and ask their doctor about these risks.
