For the last two months I have had burning after urination. I went to the doctor(urologist)to have thing checked out.I give a urine sample, and the result was no infection. The doctor said I had a lot of urine in my bladder. He suggested putting in a catheter so the bladder could drain. He also put me on flomax. One week later, the catheter was removed.I had to go back to the doctor the following week with the same problem.Another catheter was put in for a week then removed. The catheter has been out for two weeks and no problems. When I had the second catheter removed,I asked the doctor what could be causing the bladder to not empty all of the urine. He said it could be an enlarged prostate. The doctor has not done a DRE.How does he know if the prostate is enlarged,if he has not done a DRE? He has not done a psa either.Three day later I went to the E/R for pelvic floor spasms. The E/R doctor checked my prostate and said it was normal.I think I might have a Uretheal Stricture because I was at the E/R one year ago for burning after urination. The E/R nurse used a catheter to get a urine sample and she had a problem getting the catheter in.I think the trauma from putting the catheter in caused a uretheal stricture.

hi, I don't think the catheter a yr ago by Nurse at Hospital did that because u were there for the same problem BEFORE Nurse catheter u

you wonder how dr. could know size of prostate; but u asked what could and he said enlarged prostate possible

the PSA is most of the time worthless and has lots of controversy about using it

If u have insurance then see if u can get dr to order a ultra sound or they have tests where they put dye into your bladder to get a better look

Surgery can be iffy so risk vs reward

good luck

If you have to beg you docter to explain things to you, you need a new doctor. Read the information on "Center for reconstructive surgery." Its in Irvine calif. You dont have to go their but it gives some real good explanitons of the problems we are having with the prostate. Just google center for reconstructive surgery. I stumbled across this online and it helped me lots. My doctor is like yours. Doesn't tell you anything much. I'm thinking about getting anouther doctor. Educate yourself, and don't take their word for everything. Its not that hard to figure out. Good Luck
